Irish and British police hunt for sex attacker last spotted in Limerick

GARDAÍ in Limerick are helping British police in the hunt for a teenager who attacked an 18-year-old woman.

Mian Mujahid Ali Shahid,  is a 19 year old Pakistani national, travelled to Ireland from Scotland this year. He was spotted in the Foynes area of Limerick earlier in the month. It is thought he is still in the area.

Shahid was convicted, in his absence, at Stafford Crown Court on April 13 of two counts of sexual assault on an 18 year old female. A warrant was issued for his arrest the following day.

He was sentenced in May to 30 months imprisonment, also in his absence.

A Gardaí spokesperson said: “Following the receipt of a European arrest warrant Gardaí have carried out extensive enquires but have failed to establish his current whereabouts. Our enquiries would indicate that he is still in this jurisdiction.

Gardaí continue to liaise closely with Police Scotland and the Staffordshire Police in relation to this matter.”

Anyone with information about the movement of Shahid in Ireland, and in particular his current whereabouts are asked to contact the Gardaí at Henry Street in Limerick on 00353 (0)61 212400
