Two men arrested in Coventry as police try to piece together the killing of Liam McGerrigan

WEST Midlands police have arrested two men on suspicion of the stabbing of Liam McGerrigan in Coventry last Thursday, June 9,

The police believe 27-year-old McGerrigan was involved in an altercation in a church car park near Holyhead Road. He then "staggered to an address in Holyhead Road where he collapsed and later died", according to a police statement.

Paramedics came to the scene but he was pronounced dead at 10.10pm that night due to a stab wound.

A 25-year-old man and 33-year-old man were arrested in the Devon area and Tile Hill (around three miles from where McGerrigan was found), respectively, in connection with the stabbing last Friday, June 10.

The West Midlands police said they have been given an extra 33-hours to question the 33-year-old man. This extension expires today, June 13.

Detective Inspector Shaun Egan, from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: "A young man has tragically lost his life and we are still piecing together the circumstances of what happened that night."

Family and friends of McGerrigan have been posting tributes on social media.
