'We need to stop four more years of GEORGE' - Joe Biden mocked after appearing to get Donald Trump's name wrong in interview

DONALD TRUMP has led the charge in mocking 'sleepy' Joe Biden after the Democratic candidate appeared to get the President's name wrong during an interview.

Biden appeared to call his rival 'George', before his wife Jill - who was sitting beside him - seemed to mutter 'Trump' under her breath to correct him.

Addressing a virtual concert on Sunday night, Biden said Americans need to vote in order to stop "four more years of George."

The 77-year-old had apparently confused Trump with George W. Bush, who was president from 2001 to 2009, or George H. W. Bush, who was president from 1989 to 1993.

After being asked why the American public should get out and vote during November's presidential election, Biden said: "Well first of all the reason they should vote is that there's a lot on the ballot this year.

"Not because I'm running, but because who I'm running against, this is the most consequential election in a long, long time. And the character of the country in my view is literally on the ballot.

"What kind of country we're gonna be. Four more years of George, eh, he, eh, gonna find ourselves in a position where if Trump gets elected, we're gonna be in a different world," he said.

Biden's metal state has been called into question a number of times during his campaign, and Trump was quick to mock the former vice president on his latest gaffe.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Trump wrote: "Joe Biden called me George yesterday. Couldn't remember my name. Got some help from the anchor to get him through the interview. The Fake News Cartel is working overtime to cover it up!"

Speaking later at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the president said: "Did you see when he called me George?" Trump asked the crowd.

"I don't know if I like George," he said. "What a mess. He called me George.

"I don't know whether I should be insulted or happy about it."

Democrats however insisted that Biden was simply speaking to George Lopez, one of the hosts of the rally, and hadn't misremembered his political rival's name.

Biden is known for his verbal stumbles, and it's something the Republicans have frequently claimed is a sign of his senility.
