Ireland's Hampden Park hero Amber Barrett has been praised for her appearance on the Late Late Show

Donegal native Amber Barrett has received lavish praise from the Irish public for her appearance on the Late Late Show.

For people who may forgot Barrett helped the Republic of Ireland Women's team reach their first ever major tournament last year. Ireland will head to the World Cup this year.

The 27-year-old scored the only goal in the game against Scotland and this goal came in the same week of the Creeslough explosion in her home county of Donegal.

The disaster killed ten people and left eight hospitalized at the time. This was the highest number of civilian casualties in the county in decades.

Barrett could be seen pointing towards the black armband after scoring, which was a gesture to remember the victims.

Speaking after her famous goal for Vera Pauw's side the FFC Turbine Potsdam player said at the time, "I know people who died in the tragedy and people who were affected by the family. I know people who were first on the scene of the tragedy. I’ve not been able to put it into words. There has been a somberness about me the last few days.

“This is the best day of my life in terms of what we’ve done for football but when you put it into perspective, we don’t even scratch the surface of what happened over there on Friday.

“This result, that goal, this game, this reward. I’m dedicating it to those 10 beautiful souls who unfortunately perished on Friday and their families.

The Ireland player opened up again on the special day in Scotland's national stadium to the Late Late host Ryan Tubridy

The Ireland stars grandparents are from Creeslough.

"Outside my home Milford, Creeslough is my second home," said Barrett.

"I spent most of my childhood there, my Granny and Grandad were there and loved going down to see my Granny and Grandad and spent a lot of my time and childhood in there with my brothers as well.

"Not just thinking about Creeslough in terms of now, I know that if my Granny and Grandad were still alive that would have been the filling station, they would have went to collect the pension and paper.

"It doesn't just hit home because of that but because of the deeper thoughts as well."

After the interview, the Ireland player was praised on social media for her humility around the tragedy.

"Amber Barrett is such a humble person. Her sensational goal against Scotland, especially with the weight of the country on her shoulders at the time as Donegal woman, will go down in history as one of the great Ireland goals," said one social media user.

"Not hard to see where Amber Barrett gets her humility from - very proud parents in the audience."

"Amber Barrett comes across as a down to earth genuinely warm and v likeable woman. Spoke v eloquently on Late Late tonight, "said another.
