WHEN at Euro 2012, the Republic of Ireland fans were awarded for being the best fans at the tournament because of their superb vocal support for the disappointing Irish team, who lost all three games.
Having qualified again for this year’s championships, the Irish faithful are now hoping to defend their title and in trying to do so are prepared to pull out all the stops they can to impress the hosts.
Their huge turnout versus Sweden in Paris certainly helped their case, but this subsequent step could very well turn out to be the clincher.
Sparked from a video showing Irish fans with plastic bags, clearing up bottles and cans off the Bordeaux streets left by their compatriots, website Buzzweed France have decided to publish an article, leading with the headline 'here is proof that Irish fans have already won Euro 2016'.
Irish fans are also described as ‘wonderful’ in the publication as they’re going to such enormous lengths to grace a tournament once again, surely they must be now favourites for successive ‘best fans’ awards.
