Roy Keane hilariously stands on his tip-toes in order to look as tall as arch-rival Patrick Vieira

ROY KEANE was spotted standing on his tip-toes while posing for a photo with ex-Arsenal star Patrick Vieira, in an embarrasing attempt to look as tall as him.

I mean, we all know the former Ireland skipper is willing to do just about anything to avoid losing, but this is a bit extreme.

Keane and Vieira joined Ian Wright and Mark Pougatch for ITV's coverage of France's 1-0 victory over Germany on Tuesday evening, and the group gathered for a quick snap together after the game.

Now, the on-field rivalry between Keane and Vieira was one of the Premier League's fiercest, but the duo haven't shared a pitch in over 15 years. Still, that didn't stop the Manchester United legend trying to outdo his old nemesis, for old times' sake.

Keane's antics drew comparisons to his former United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who famously stood on his tip-toes for pre-match squad photos in order to look taller than his teammates.

While many on social media lined up to ridicule the Irishman, others were just pleased to see the Keane/Vieira rivalry re-ignited.

"Roy Keane on tip toes - still at the mind games," wrote one fan.

Another said: "Roy Keane getting his shoulder across big Patrick, the man is instinctively jockeying for position."

Somebody else said: "Roy Keane intimidated by Vieira's height... subtle continuation of the rivalry of yesteryears."

Keane and Vieira's on-field relationship epitomised the rivalry between United and Arsenal at the time.

It was always heated, often bitter and the two were desperate to topple the other, knowing that doing so would likely land them the league title that year.

It's nice to see that old habits sometimes really do die hard.
