Teddy Sheringham believes that Casemiro could be Manchester United's captain

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes that Casemiro could be Manchester United's captain in the future.

This year, the coveted title has been held by the likes of Harry Maguire, David de Gea, and Bruno Fernandes, but with Maguire and De Gea allegedly due to leave, the captain slot could open itself up.

Casemiro, who has been a revelation for Erik Ten Hag's side this season, has been tipped to take the armband by Sheringham. The Englishman compared former United captain Roy Keane to the Brazilian in an interview with Betway.

Keane, a Cork native, is seen by many as the club's greatest ever captain.

During his time at the club, Keane won 1 Champions League, 7 Premier League titles, and 4 FA Cups. He is also best remembered for his display in Turin, where United came back to beat Italian giants Juventus in 1999.

"Without a doubt. He's not captain, but he leads by example. I wouldn't put it past Ten Hag to give the captain's armband to Casemiro next year," said the Treble winner Sheringham

"I know it's drifted about, but I think Casemiro is the leader and he should be captain. He leads by example, the same way Roy Keane did."

Adding on Casemiro's influence, the former United striker described the five-time Champions League winner as 'invaluable'.

"I think Casemiro has been invaluable. You need somebody in central midfield that dictates the play, and he chips in a few goals as well.

"I know he's had a couple of red cards, and that sets you back a bit, but he stamps his authority on a game and I think he's been a revelation since he's come in."

Manchester City will play Manchester United in the FA Cup Final on Sunday. The game will kick off at 3 pm.
