Ryanair no longer top choice for Brits, survey finds

DESPITE its much publicised recent image, website and fare structure revamp, Ryanair has failed to make a list of the top 5 ‘best value for money’ airlines, according to a survey.

British passengers have voted low-cost airline Norwegian top of the class when it comes to value.

EasyJet came second in the category, with British Airways taking third place. Jet2 placed fourth, while Monarch took the final top five spot in the budget flights section.

British Airways is not normally regarded as a budget airline but under the stewardship of Dublin CEO Willie Walsh, it does compete strongly with other budget airlines on a number of short haul routes.

The national flag carrier was also named as favourite airline in four out of five categories as part of a Skyscanner survey of 4,000 passengers flying out of Britain. These included best food and drink, best customer service, best on board experience and best overall style.

Skyscanner's Mary Porter said: “Being a superbrand and one which Brits are very proud of, it's perhaps not surprising that British Airways has scooped the top spot in our survey, although I imagine the airline will be especially pleased to have ranked so well in the value for money category.”

Norwegian also placed in the top three for on board experience, customer service and style.

While fellow Nordic airline SAS, the national airline for Sweden, also saw success taking second place for its food and drink and third place for style.

Ms Porter added: “It is particularly interesting to see such strong results for a far less well-known airline, with Norwegian taking second place and goes to show that low cost does not necessarily mean an inferior product or service.  This will of course be very positive news for those anticipating booking onto its first Transatlantic routes from the UK later this year.”
