AS ANYONE with an Irish name will know, it can be a bone of contention when someone attempts to read your name aloud.
For Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, this is no different.
The New York-born Carlow woman appeared on The Ellen Show in the US yesterday to talk about her new movie Brooklyn, award nominations and how her name is constantly butchered by those who are baffled by the Irish spelling.
Comedian and host Ellen DeGeneres quizzed Ronan on the unusual name - asking if she knew anyone else called Saoirse.
"I don't personally but there have been a few babies called Saoirse in the last few years, don't know why," she said.
"It means freedom, it's an important meaning anywhere but especially in Ireland."
And, as a solution to the problem, DeGeneres gave Ronan this rather fetching sandwich board to wear so that people will know what to call her...
It has been a whirlwind few days for Ronan, who was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Eilis Lacey in Brooklyn - while she was also named on Forbes' '30 under 30' list of up and coming stars to watch out for.
