Anger as memorial cards from late Big Tom McBride's funeral used as prizes in raffle

FANS of late country singer Big Tom McBride have been angered by the use of his funeral mass cards as spot prizes in a raffle.

Ballyleague Renewal voluntary group in Roscommon used a number of the cards for their community fundraiser quiz.

They advertised the “unique spot prize” in a post on Facebook shortly after the country music legend’s funeral in Co. Monaghan last month

They said: “Only 500 printed and all gone…This piece of memorabilia will be a prize in the raffle.”

A spokesperson for the group told Shannonside FM that it was an error of judgement on their behalf and that no malice was intended whatsoever.

Peter Mc Caughey, the director for Big Tom’s funeral, told the Irish Sun that the family were aware of the incident.

He said: “The group in Roscommon apologised unreservedly and the family are pleased that there was no disrespect or malice behind it, but there are plenty of others online doing the same thing.”

Big Tom died on April 17 aged 81.
