Anti-lockdown and anti-mask protests taking place in Dublin

A SERIES of anti-lockdown and anti-mask are taking place in Dublin today.

Demonstrations are being put together by several groups unhappy with the current Covid-19 measures in place across Ireland which are designed to halt the spread of the virus.

The event has been organised by the protest group Health Freedom Ireland in conjunction with Yellow Vest Ireland

“Join us on the 22nd of August and stand for the right to choose,” an event listing on the group’s Facebook page reads.

“Let the government know that any public measures MUST be based on factual evidence and scientific debate.

“Your freedom to choose, in relation to bodily integrity, is rapidly being diminished under the guise of a 'public health crisis'.

“Experts across the world are challenging the supposed threat level of COVID-19, and demanding justification for the restrictions we are seeing in Ireland and elsewhere.”

The protest group has expressed concern over the prospect of vaccination, testing and masks being made mandatory.

They are also concerned about the prospect of automated temperature checks at shop entrances, the enforced use of hand sanitiser and social distancing in schools.

Back in May, Health Freedom Ireland issued a statement calling for the end of all lockdown measures across Ireland despite increasing rates of the virus.

The protest group is being led by Maeve Murran, a noted “kinesiologist” and anti-vaccination campaigner, along Kelly Johnson, a homeopath who is among those to have touted the claim that vaccines can cause autism.

Buses from around the country have been organised to bring people to the protest, with the Garda public order unit being put on stand-by ahead of the event.

The protest is taking place at Custom House in Dublin with those demonstrating as part of the group encouraged to wear purple t-shirts in order “to stand out in the crowd”.
