Australian rugby commentator criticised over ‘potato’ comment during Ireland win

AUSTRALIAN rugby commentator Phil Kearns has been criticised for his comments during Ireland’s third Test victory over the Wallabies.

Ireland’s 20-16 win sealed a first series victory in Australia for 39 years.

However Fox Sports commentator Kearns’ comments during a break in play in the second half have caused a stir online.

The former Rugby World Cup winner sounded frustrated as he claimed Ireland were slowing the game down following CJ Stander’s try to give the visitors a 17-9 lead.

“Fiddle dee dee, fiddle dee dee, fiddle dee dee, potato,” said Kearns.

“Out the back there, having their own little chat.”

The comments provoked a reaction on social media, with fans branding them 'disgusting' and 'disgraceful'.

The Irish Post has asked Fox Sports to comment on Kearns' remarks.
