Dublin man arrested after abandoned car sparks alert at Gatwick Airport

A MAN from Dublin has been arrested after an abandoned car sparked an alert at Gatwick Airport this week.

At around 4.50pm on Friday, police erected a cordon as a precaution in the drop-off parking area of the airport's North Terminal while they investigated a vehicle.

The Mirror reports that the incident centred around a car believed to have had an Irish numberplate and a gas stove in the front.

Today, Sussex Police confirmed that a man from Dublin was arrested at the airport following a report of an abandoned vehicle at the North Terminal.

Andris Sibu, 34, of Lamb Alley, Dublin, Ireland, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle while over the alcohol limit.

The force added that he is being investigated for a number of offences in relation to the incident, which was not terror-related.

Sibu has been released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on August 16.

"We want to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we investigated this incident," said Gatwick Inspector Richard Church.
