Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter backs Ireland to co-host 2030 World Cup

FORMER FIFA President Sepp Blatter has said that he believes Ireland and the UK should host the 2030 World Cup.

The controversial character, who was replaced as President by Gianni Infantino in 2016, told Sky Sports News today that England or Ireland “deserve to organise the World Cup”.

He continued: “I think that England deserve to organise the World Cup. They have had it in 1966 so it is a long time ago.

“I spoke with one of your colleagues…and he said Wales and Scotland together. I said why not Ireland?

“With 48 teams, you need more than one country to host.”

Ireland will experience what it’s like to host a major tournament in two years when, along with a number of other European cities, they play host to the Euro 2020 competition.
