Gardaí urge people not to share collision images after two motorcyclists die on M50

AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA has urged people to stop sharing 'disrespectful' images after a fatal collision on the M50 in Dublin.

Two motorcyclists died in the incident at around 2pm on Friday on the northbound carriageway between Junctions 9 and 7.

A truck was also involved in the incident, although the driver was uninjured.

The Irish Mirror reports that the men, one aged in his 50s and the other in his 60s, were holidaymakers from England who were touring around Ireland.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said they were aware of images of the incident circulating on social media and urged people not to share them.

"An Garda Síochána is aware of graphic images of today's Fatal Road Traffic collision which are being shared across social media and messaging apps," they said.

"An Garda Síochána appeals to everybody, DO NOT SHARE This Material, it is disrespectful to the deceased, their family and friends!!"

The road was closed until around 9pm on Friday while gardaí carried out a technical examination of the scene.

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist in his 40s died in a collision involving a car in Co. Kilkenny on Saturday.

The incident occurred on the R712 in Clifden at around 4.50pm.

Two other motorcyclists were injured in the incident and were taken to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, and his two female passengers were taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny with non-life threatening injuries.
