Irish socialist group warn 'West Brits' who watch Royal Wedding from Ireland will have 'blood on their hands'

AN Irish socialist group has claimed anyone who tunes into the Royal Wedding from Ireland tomorrow should feel "seriously ashamed".

Anti-Imperialist Action Ireland (AIAI) has posted a number of warnings on social media in the lead up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's big day.

The group has even posted a similar diatribe outside a theatre in Greystones, Co. Wicklow that is planning to live stream the event.

The poster, co-signed by the Irish Socialist Republicans, is labelled "Greystones Against Royal Parasites" and urges readers to "Smash British Normalisation".

In a statement on Facebook, the AIAI have branded any Irish people planning to watch the "wedding of English royal parasites" as "West Brits" - a derogatory term for Irish people seen to be overly indulged in British culture.

They wrote: “Anyone planning to celebrate the wedding of English royal parasites at events such as those being slavishly organised by the West Brits in Greystones or Howth, or similar events on Saturday May 19, or those who plan to watch the wedding on RTE, should be seriously ashamed of themselves.

“Not only will you be celebrating the ongoing occupation of six Irish Counties and Britain’s normalisation strategy in Ireland, you will also be celebrating the illegal Zionist occupation of Palestine and its ongoing campaign of genocide against the Palestine People.”

The statement went on to claim that Irish people will be supporting this week's mass shooting of Palestinians in Gaza if they follow coverage of the ceremony.

It added: "Harry Windsor has played a frontline role in securing and protecting the interests of imperialism in the Middle East, fighting in the ranks of the British Military in its illegal wars of conquest, exporting British ‘democracy’ to places it had no right to be.

"So the connection between imperialism in Palestine and the English Royal Wedding on Saturday is very real.

"Anyone attending parties celebrating the English Royal Wedding will have the blood of the Palestinian people and the victims of imperialism in Ireland and the Middle East on their hands.

"You will be celebrating the mass murder of over 60 innocent Palestinian civilians this week".

The statement concluded: “The events being organised are shameful and in very poor taste. They should be cancelled.

“All attempts to normalise the illegal occupation of Ireland by Britain must be resisted by Republicans. Britain get out of Ireland now!

“We don’t support Imperialist terror and mass murder.”

The Royal Wedding has also been criticised by Republic, the UK-based pressure group which advocates for the replacement of the monarchy with a republic.

On Thursday, a Republic petition calling for the Royal Family to pay for the wedding in its entirety was delviered to Parliament with 32,000 signatures.

It read: “If the royals don't want to pay a big security bill they could have had a private wedding in Sandringham or Balmoral.

"Instead Harry has decided to turn his wedding into a public parade, costing the taxpayers' millions.

"This week's YouGov poll shows 66% aren't interested in the wedding, most people want the royals to pay."
