Paddy Power have dig at Scotland ahead of crucial European qualifier against Ireland

BETTING firm Paddy Power has stoked up the heat ahead of Ireland’s European qualifier against Scotland today.

Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane lead their players into battle in the crucial fixture, with Ireland needing a win to maintain realistic hopes of reaching the European Championships next year.

In typical Paddy Power fashion, the Irish company has mocked up an advert depicting the Cork man as William Wallace from the film Braveheart.

In what is possibly a dig at Scotland’s failed independence referendum last year, the fiery former midfielder is daubed in green face paint with the slogan, “You may take our points, but at least we have our freedom”, paraphrasing Mel Gibson’s famous line from the Hollywood blockbuster.

And in a further jibe, the poster signs off by calling the Scots “wee p***ies”.

A win for Ireland — who have Falkirk-born Aiden McGeady in their squad — will move them on to 11 points and lift them above Scotland.
