Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take pre-wedding trip to Northern Ireland

PRINCE HARRY and Meghan Markle have made an unexpected pre-wedding trip to Northern Ireland.

The soon-to-be wed royal couple visited the Eikon Centre just outside of Belfast to attend an event to mark the second year of the youth-led peace-building initiative Amazing the Space.

Over 2,500 children have gathered to take part in the event taking place in Lisburn.

The trip marks the first joint official visit for the pair - who will be married at St George's Chapel, Windsor on May 19 - to Northern Ireland.

Thousands of young people from across Northern Ireland and the border counties are today re-pledging their commitment to building peace in their communities.

At the last Amazing the Space event, supported by Co-operation Ireland, schoolchildren from 409 schools wrote their own personal peace pledges.

“We are excited to have been involved in the organisation of Amazing the Space, a project we see as being integral to the development of a peaceful society in Northern Ireland," said Peter Sheridan, Co-operation Ireland Chief Executive.

“To have so many young people in one place proactively speaking out in favour of peace and committing to living their lives through peaceful means can only bode well for society.”
