Buffalo Bills have said that Damar Hamlin  is 'making a remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours days after his heart stopped

The NFL team the Buffalo Bills have said that Damar Hamlin  is 'making a remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours', days after his heart stopped on the football field.

Hamlin went into cardiac arrest during Monday's NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals after Bengals receiver Tee Higgins tackled the 24-year-old midway through the first quarter of Monday's game.

CPR was administered on the field for approximately 10 minutes before he was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he has been ever since.

The NFL team issued an updated statement via their website and said, "Per the physicians caring for Damar Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Damar has shown remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours," it read.

"While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal and he is making steady progress. We are grateful for the love and support we have received."

Hamlin's uncle Dorrian Glenn also spoke to CNN this week and added, "His heart had gone out so they had to resuscitate him twice.

"They resuscitated him on the field before they brought him to the hospital and then they resuscitated him a second time when they got him to the hospital.

"I'm not a crier, but I've never cried so hard in my life. Just to know, like, my nephew basically died on the field and they brought him back to life."

The game between the teams on Monday was suspended and it is not yet confirmed if the game will go ahead according to The NFL
