Ireland debut a 'dream come true' for 17-year-old Robbie Keane in throwback video

ROBBIE Keane was young and fresh-faced when he made his international home debut at the tender age of 17 on this day 18 years ago.

Under the management of Mick McCarthy, Keane was selected in the squad to host Argentina on April 22, 1998.

The LA Galaxy player - formerly of Tottenham Hotspur - appears shy in this vintage clip of his first post-match interview as an Ireland international, telling reporters that it was "a dream come true" to make his debut alongside the likes of Niall Quinn.

Since his first competitive game for the senior team on home soil, Keane has amassed 143 caps and 67 goals, appearing in the 2002 World Cup and the 2014 European Championships.
