FOUR-bedroom homes and three-figure sums seldom go together – but one such Irish property worth €175K could be yours for just €100.
In what is a first for Ireland, a local soccer club in Co. Donegal are offering a house to one lucky winner in a ‘mega raffle’ for charity.
Aileach FC, based in Burnfoot, were inspired to go ahead with the draw after the area suffered horrific flooding back in August– with 40 households affected and a number of families left homeless.
Other prizes up for grabs include an all-inclusive week-long Mediterranean cruise worth €2,500 and €1,000 vouchers for local businesses.
A chance at the top prize of a brand-new, semi-detached four-bedroom home in Gleann Aoibhinn, Clonbeg, Buncrana will set you back €100 – but the figure can be paid in a number of smaller instalments over as many as 20 weeks.
The mega raffle was launched last week, but has already attracted interest from across the globe.
Speaking to The Irish Post, Aileech FC chairman Stephen O’Donnell said: “Our community was one of those worst-affected by the flooding in August.
“Some of these people are still out of their homes with little sign of returning soon.
“We delayed the launch of the draw as we didn't want to be insensitive to the victims, but after getting the OK from them we decided to go ahead”.
Mr O’Donnell said he has sent tickets as far afield as the UK, USA, Canada, Sweden, Australia and France as interest in the draw intensifies.
“We have already sent 12 tickets out to Boston,” he added. “We have lost a generation to emigration in the last 10 years but it seems a lot of those people still want a house back here.
“Outside of the lottery it’s hard to imagine a better prize – the major difference is that instead of odds of 11 million to one, there is guaranteed to be a winner in our draw and the odds are approximately 3,000 to one.”
