London Ladies win first All-Britain League after unbeaten campaign

LONDON Ladies lifted the inaugural All-Britain Ladies Football League with a comfortable victory in the final against Warwickshire on Saturday.

On a final score of 6-33 to 0-3, London were far superior on the day as captain Sinead McCooey lifted the trophy on behalf of her winning team at St Finbarrs GAA Sports and Social Club in Coventry.

The competition, which is sponsored by GGH Hire Ltd, was only set up in February but has been a resounding success as all involved head into the summer with more games under their belts than in previous years.

London went unbeaten throughout the tournament, which also saw Gloucester-Hertfordshire, Scotland and Lancashire compete, and there is the possibility that the tournament will begin in January next year, if home and away games can be agreed upon.

“It’s going to be a massive help for the development of the game around Britain and that’s what it’s all about,” Tommy Donohue, President of Britain Ladies Provincial Board, told The Irish Post ahead of February's launch.
