Midfielder Gibson suffers foot injury

EVERTON midfielder Darron Gibson is unlikely to feature for the Toffees or Republic of Ireland again this season.

Gibson sustained a broken metatarsal during a training session last Friday.  “I don’t think we’re going to see Darron this season,” Everton manager Roberto Martinez said. ”I’m not too worried about that.

“My only focus is that he can recover 100 per cent and that he can get back with no worries of needing an extra surgery at the end of it.

“It’s a tricky injury because you’ve got a little bit of concern that if you don’t heal the injury properly it could come back.

“If he can come back in pre-season and be fully fit for the next campaign, I will be delighted.”

Gibson, who started Ireland’s 2016 European Championships qualifier against Scotland in November, has been plagued by injuries this term making only 14 appearances for Everton in the 2014/15 campaign.

Martin O'Neill's team face a busy June at the Aviva Stadium with a friendly fixture against England followed by a crunch qualifying clash with Scotland.
