Investigation launched following video of Oli McBurnie allegedly committing assault

THE SCOTLAND international may be in a bit of trouble.

An investigation has been launched following an apparent video of footballer Oli McBurnie allegedly committing assault.

The video footage shows a man walking down the street, while the person recording shouts "Oli McBurnie" at him.

McBurnie then approaches the person doing the recording, and seemingly strikes him, also kicking him or his phone on the ground.

The man who recorded the incident was left with injuries, but they were not believed to be bad enough to need medical assistance.

Sheffield United, McBurnie's club, released a statement as the video continues to do the rounds online, saying: "Officials at Sheffield United are aware of the video circulating on social media and are currently investigating."

United were relegated from the Premier League this season, finishing the league in last place. It is being reported that the person recording the video referenced relegation while talking to McBurnie.

Meanwhile, North Yorkshire Police said: "We would encourage anyone involved in this incident to report it to the police so the circumstances surrounding the incident can be established and support offered to the victim".

This incident comes just over a year after he was fined £28,500 for drink-driving after a police officer spotted him reaching an "idiotic" speed in his a Audi car.
