The Guardian publish beautiful cartoon in tribute to Alan McLoughlin

A GORGEOUS tribute to the Irish footballing legend.

Last week saw the tributes pour in following the tragic death of Irish footballing legend Alan McLoughlin.

He died at the age of 54, and had been living with cancer, which he revealed publicly earlier in the year.

Among those who paid their respects were Paul McGrath, President Michael D Higgins, his daughter, and one fan who referred to McLoughlin as his "hero".

And they haven't stopped yet.

The Guardian published a touching cartoon, that didn't just touch on McLoughlin's abilities as a footballer, but also how he was as a man.

David Squires wrote: "McLoughlin was of course more than just an exceptional footballer and brilliant coach. He was a warm, intelligent, funny, brave man who understood the importance of a football club to a community.

"It is because of his qualities as a human that his loss is felt so deeply among the fans of the clubs he played for, and in the nation he so proudly represented.

"As football heroes go, I couldn't have picked a better one than Alan McLoughlin."

Truly gorgeous stuff. You can see the touching cartoon in full here.

It is a testament to the man's performances on the pitch, and his character off it, that the tributes are still pouring in over a week after his death was confirmed.

RIP Alan.
