Galway singer launches celebrity chef’s new open-air concert series

MARY COUGHLAN is the first star signed up to perform at a series of outdoor concerts hosted by celebrity chef Richard Corrigan.

The culinary entrepreneur, who hails from Co. Meath, owns Corrigan's Mayfair and Bentley's Oyster Bar and Grill in London and Virginia Park Lodge in Virginia, county Cavan.

And it is his Irish outpost, which he acquired in 2014, that will form the backdrop for his latest project – the Lodge Sessions, a series of outdoor concerts taking place in the grounds of the picturesque 100-acre estate.

The concerts kick off next weekend, with Galway jazz and blues singer Coughlan serenading fans from 5-7pm on Sunday, August 30.

“I am so thrilled to have Mary kicking off our Lodge Sessions series at the end of the month,” Corrigan said.

“Whether you’re into folk, blues or jazz, you can’t help but be moved by Coughlan’s voice, shaped by her extraordinary life,” he added.

“Coughlan has sold out some of the world’s most prestigious venues, so having her play at Virginia Park Lodge is extremely humbling.”

Coughlan received a Lifetime Achievement Award in June 2020 from the Mayor of Galway, recognising her impact on the culture and arts community within the city.

The singer recently announced the release of her highly anticipated album Life Stories which is due to be released on September 4, 2020.

Corrigan’s private 18th century estate will also be offering accommodation packages for those attending the concert - including the option to stay in their luxurious suites located in the main house or the quirky woodland huts found scattered across the estate.

Beer, wine and prosecco will be available to order, as well as two food options to enjoy throughout the concert: Buttermilk Chicken, Gooseberry Garden Slaw, Sweet Potato Fries and Chipotle Mayo and The Gooseberry Garden Grilled Summer Vegetable Bowl.

A spokesperson for the event added: “The entire event is in line with government regulations on social distancing and all drinks and food will be served directly to your seats.”

Tickets to the concert are priced at €45 per person, or the Lodge VIP Package, including Bed & Breakfast at the Lodge, front row seats to the concert as well as supper served in the Marchioness dining room, costs €325 per person.
