'He's got a point' – Jimmy Carr has Irish town in uproar after labelling it 'gateway to the 1970s'

Ouch!

Some residents of Letterkenny, Co. Donegal aren't too happy with a certain Jimmy Carr.

The British comedian played to a packed house at the town's Clanree Hotel last night, and it seems the 8 Out Of 10 Cats star wasn't particularly taken with his surroundings.

Ahead of the gig, Carr tweeted: “I'm in Letterkenny 'Gateway Town'. What they don't tell you is it's a gateway to the 70s.”

Judging by the replies, it would appear there are some sensitive souls up in Donegal's biggest town – but others couldn't help but admit that Jimmy had a point.

One shouty local wrote: "F**k off Jimmy. Your surname's from Donegal!"

Another said: "Still stealing a living as a 'comedian' or on the run from the tax man again?"

While a third wordsmith added: "Well, why don't you and your eyebrows f**k off back across the Irish Sea?"

Nevertheless, many fans were on the same page.

"Be careful James my boy," one said. "They have Twitter there and love to rearrange knee caps in that part of Donegal!"

Another wrote: "That's a bit unfair on the 1870s".

While a particularly sarcastic local added: "Out of order, that, and completely inaccurate. For starters, Superdry wasn't about then!"

Jimmy Carr is currently in Ireland as part of his ‘Best of Tour’ and played to audiences in Sligo and Carrick-on-Shannon over the weekend.

The 45-year-old was born in England to Limerick natives Patrick and Nora-Mary Carr, and even holds an Irish passport.
