It's an abseil fail for this unlucky Belfast rock climber

IT WAS a windy weekend across the Irish coast, as one Belfast man discovered.

The brave Irishman was filmed attempting to abseil down Ireland’s famous climbing crag at Fairhead in Co. Antrim.

He began by throwing his climbing rope off the edge of the cliff face, but wthe force of the coastal breeze sent the rope flying back at him.

A video of the hilarious scene was uploaded to Vimeo and has now been viewed over 10,000 times.

One viewer turned the video into a gif which has been widely shared across the internet, including on Reddit where posters were keen to offer the climber some internet wisdom.

“I'd take that as a sign and go home,” said one.

This advice was followed with another suggestion: “I'd take that as a sign and go find the nearest pub.”

The cliffs form part of the rocky headland in the north-eastern corner of Co. Antrim.

Historically, geography books have measured Ireland’s length from Fair Head in the north down to its southern counterpart Mizen Head in Co.Cork.

The area is a popular rock-climbing location, and is thought to have the biggest expanse of climbable rock in the UK.
