A MOVIE based on the life of Irish philanthropist Christina Noble has begun shooting in Britain.
Irish actress Deridre O’Kane (Moone Boy, Intermission) will play the lead role in the feature which is entitled Noble.
She will star opposite Downton Abbey star Brendan Coyle, Ruth Negga (Twelve Years a Slave) and Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham.
Noble is described by its producers as “the inspirational true story of a woman who believes that it only takes one person to make a difference”.
Filming for the movie, which has been in the planning for five years, got underway in Liverpool earlier this month.
Cast and crew have spent the last month on set in Vietnam with director Stephen Bradley at the helm.
Scenes from Christina’s early life in Dublin are now being shot in here in the northwest, featuring up-and-coming actress Sarah Greene as a teenage Christina.
Christina Noble was born in Ireland into the slums of Dublin in 1944. Having experienced a childhood of pain and betrayal, she founded the Christina Noble Children's Foundation in 1989 to help underprivileged children in Vietnam and Mongolia.
“We’re really excited that the amazing story of Christina’s life and how she began her work in Vietnam will now be hitting the big screen, “ said Fiona Geoghegan from the charity’s London HQ.
“Director Stephen Bradley has assembled a fantastic cast and crew which also feature some of our children from the Sunshine School in Vietnam.
Bradley added: “Deirdre has had an intense four weeks of filming, featuring in almost every scene. Now she's passed the baton on to Sarah Greene. Sarah's first scene will be on the back of a ferry leaving Dublin on a gloomy, wintery day in 1963.”
