From Malt Whiskey to Monopoly: a rundown of the booziest and best Game of Thrones merchandise

GAME OF THRONES has led us through a long journey. Hardcore fans have a long history with the franchise, devouring George R. R. Martin’s novels, and staying up until the wee hours of Monday mornings to watch the series. Then, true to form discussing the events of last night’s episode, theorizing and opinionating, switching to hushed tones when the inevitable ‘haven’t watched it yet’ guy demands a no spoilers zone.

It’s been 2 months since the most disappointing season of the series and while many fans were left angered, the chains of devotion for the enchanting lands of the Seven Kingdoms are not so easily broken. Game of Thrones merchandise is reaping the benefits of capitalizing on the popularity of the show and on the void left by season 8 in the hearts of die-hard fans.

We’ve seen everything from Game of Thrones engagement rings to a Hodor doorstep, and a John Snow USB drive to… yes… Khal Drogo Thongs. Hey, whatever works for you. There are, however, some attention-worthy things out there too. We have compiled a list of arguably, the coolest.

1. ‘The Game of Thrones Single Malt Whisky Collection’

This one is great for softening of the blow among those fans who were moved especially hard at the ending of their favourite show. Or on a more serious note, it’s simply a collection of genuinely nice whiskeys that make for an especially lovely present for fans of the show. The concept is that eight of the best known scottish distilleries are paired with the eight great Houses and factions of Westeros. So we have the great houses of Targaryen, Tyrell, Baratheon, Tully, Greyjoy, Lannister, Stark, and the Night’s Watch, each, with its own, distinct flavour of whiskey.

2. Game of Thrones Computer Games

A couple of different games came out since the beginning of the TV series. The most notable is the Telltale Game of Thrones Series on Steam. This episodic graphic adventure was released on many platforms including Android, iOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 among others. The story in the game pans across six episodes, propelled by choice-driven gameplay, similar to Telltale’s other products, like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. The game received mixed reviews with critics praising its loyalty to the source material and the narrative but criticized the lack of context for players unfamiliar with GoT. Other, let’s say less ambitious, games include A Game of Thrones: Genesis, Reigns: Game of Thrones, and even a Game of Thrones slot game for the casino enthusiasts.

3. ‘’I drink and I know things’’ pint glass

There is a whole series of these pint glasses and beer mugs out there, deeming this a very versatile memento, which could also make a great gift. The glass features one of Tyrion Lannister’s best quotes: ‘’I drink and I know things’’. Tyrion, being a truly wise man, knows what he’s saying. You can choose tin or copper ones, but personally, we prefer good old glass as a pint glass should be. On the off chance that you are not a beer drinker, they also make these in a ‘I drink coffee and I know things’ version.

4. Game of Thrones: Monopoly

What makes this Game of Thrones Monopoly so cool is that this seemingly simple board game has the power to actually make you feel like one of the characters fighting for control over the lands of the Seven Kingdoms. The gameboard, detailed game pieces, chance cards, and even the money are all inspired by the Game of Thrones Series.
