Irish couple pop into church for a quick prayer before picking up €1m National Lottery cheque

AN Irish couple stopped by their local church to offer a prayer en route to collecting a €1million prize from Lotto HQ today.

The husband and wife, who have chosen to remain anonymous, won the eye-watering sum on the Daily Millions draw from Wednesday, February 21.

The pair joked that the Holy Spirit must have been watching over them on the day they entered the draw.

Speaking as they picked up their cheque in Dublin today, the woman said: “We called into the Church on the way in here today to say a prayer of thanks.

"This win will make a huge difference to us and will make life a lot more comfortable.”

Her husband then revealed the couple's plan for the windfall.

“We have not told anybody at all about the win. We will wait a few weeks before we do," he said.

"We want to let this sink in and we are determined it will be life as normal. We are both working and that won’t change.

“I play Daily Millions regularly and checked my ticket in my local shop the day after the draw.  The scanning machine told me to ring the National Lottery. But like any good man the first thing I did was ring my wife!"

This is the first time in 2018 that someone has won on the Daily Millions, which takes place twice a week.

An almighty congratulations to the lucky couple!
