Elderly man dies, son injured, after house fire in Ireland

AN ELDERLY man has died after he sustained burn injuries in a house fire in Ireland on Friday.

The man, aged in his 80s, was injured in the blaze at his home in Meelick, Co. Clare at around 5pm yesterday.

His son, aged in his 40s, also sustained burns as he tried to help his father.

The older man was conscious when emergency services arrived, however he was put into an induced coma by a Critical Care Retrieval Physician.

The father and son were airlifted to Cork University Hospital by the Air Corps air ambulance 112 and Coast Guard helicopter 115 respectively.

The father passed away this morning while the son is being treated at the hospital’s burns unit.
