Fox News pundit says London Bridge attack ‘wouldn’t have happened’ if UK public had access to guns

A NOTED ally of President Donald Trump has sparked anger online with the claim that this week’s London Bridge terror attack could have been avoided if the UK public were able to carry guns.

An attorney by profession, David Wohl is also a regular guest on Fox News and previously served as a “Campaign Surrogate” for President Trump.

In the wake of the attack, which left two dead and three seriously injured, Wohl took to social media to comment on the incident.

“Takeaway from #LondonBridge incident: If law-abiding Londoners could carry firearms legally, it probably wouldn't have happened. Amazing how bold the terrorists are when they know their victims will be unarmed,” he wrote.

Piers Morgan was among those to criticise Wohl’s response, with the Irish Post Award winner tweeting: “How can anyone be this dumb?”

Wohl refused to back down though, responding to Morgan: “Right Piers. Having the ability to actually defend yourself from a terrorist attack is a terrible and stupid thing. ‘How can you actually be so dumb?’”

Wohl then doubled down on his views, tweeting: “In reality you can't even defend yourself with a KNIFE in the UK, as they are outlawed as well as firearms.

“Oh, but the terrorists have knives to kill innocents, because they don't care about the laws. Funny how that works.”

Ireland’s Minister for the Diaspora & International Development Ciaran Cannon was among those to effectively argue against Wohl’s theory.

“That gun ownership policy you are touting is a roaring success,” Cannon replied.

“Your rate of murder or manslaughter by firearm is the highest in the developed world.

“Almost 11,000 of your people were the victims of murder or manslaughter involving a firearm........in 2017 alone.”

Wohl has yet to respond to the figures quoted by Cannon.
