Gardaí arrest man and woman on suspicion of terrorism in Irish city

AN Garda Síochána have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of terrorism in an Irish city. 

The arrest happened at 10am this morning following suspicions the pair had committed offences under the Criminal Justice Terrorist Offences Act 2005.

The man and woman, both in their 20s, were arrested in Waterford taken to Waterford Garda Station for questioning.

According to RTÉ the man is from Ireland and the woman is from the UK.

The two were were arrested as part of an ongoing intelligence-led operation into persons involvement in suspected terrorism activity.

Both were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows gardaí to detain suspects for up to 24 hours before they have to be charged or released.
