Gardaí catch motorcyclist doing almost double the 100km/h limit as part of Christmas crackdown

GARDAÍ captured a motorcyclist doing 198km/h in a 100km/h zone as part of their crackdown on speeding this festive season.

The speeding rider was detected doing almost twice the speed limit on the N5 at Drummindoo, Co. Mayo on Thursday.

The motorcycle was one of 476 vehicles detected being driving in excess of the speed limit that day as part of the gardaí’s Christmas and New Year safety campaign.

Gardaí praised the majority of drivers who drove responsibly, with 101,900 vehicles monitored on safety cameras on Thursday.

On Friday, 458 vehicles out of 109,931 were detected being driving in excess of the speed limit.

The worst offences yesterday included a vehicle being driving at 92km/h in a 50km/h zone on the R455 at Newbridge, Co. Kildare and another being driven 148km/h in a 100km/h zone at Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow.
