Gardaí recover body from river in search for missing Cork man Andrew Willis

A BODY has been found in a river by Gardaí overseeing the search for a missing man in Co. Cork.

Andrew Willis, 36, was reported missing from his home in Carrigaline, around 11km south of Cork city, last week.

He was last seen in the Coolmore area of Carrigaline late in the evening of Monday, June 17.

Gardaí had appealed to the public for assistance as concern grew for Mr Willis over recent days.

Large numbers of people, including friends of the missing man, had been out searching for him since his disappearance.

Gardaí recovered the body of a male from the Owenabue River late last night, a short distance away from where Mr Willis was last seen.

The remains were taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem was due to take place today.

The body is yet to be positively identified, but Gardaí are understood to be confident it belongs to Mr Willis.

Foul play is not suspected in the death.
