'Intoxicated garda' arrested in West of Ireland was driving dangerously with burst tyre

A MEMBER of An Garda Siochana has been arrested for drink driving by a colleague after being spotted driving erratically and with a burst tyre in Galway.

According to TheJournal.ie, the Garda has not yet been disciplined by his superiors and is back working at a garda station in Galway and performing regular duties from a squad car.

The incident occurred at on the afternoon of April 2nd, when the Garda was observed driving dangerously and with a burst tyre.

The arresting officer judged the man to be in an intoxicated state. He was taken back to a garda station where a sample of blood was taken.

Other gardai in the district where the man works are said to have voiced concerns over his actions and also "fear for his well-being".

The Garda Press Office told The Journal that while they do not "comment on ongoing investigations”, in the event of a garda being arrested on suspicion of drink driving "it is up to the Guard’s Chief Superintendent on whether an individual Guard loses permission to drive a Garda vehicle and, if so, for how long”.
