Irish player comes within a whisker of scooping €144 million EuroMillions jackpot

AN IRISH player came within a whisker of winning the bumper €144million EuroMillions jackpot this past Tuesday, July 7.

Or, more specifically, they came within one number.

The Irish man or woman  must have thought he had done enough after discovering they had matched all five numbers on the main draw.

But they ultimately came unstuck when it came to the two “lucky stars” on the ticket.

Not that they were unlucky, of course, with the unnamed player still managing to match one of the two lucky stars.

However, given that there’s a one in 12 chance of matching the lucky star, it’s fair to say they had done the hard part in matching the numbers on the main draw only to fall at the final hurdle.

The top prize ended up being won over in Spain, where one lucky winner picked up the €144million with the numbers 12, 16, 23, 33, 41, as well as the two lucky stars 8 and 10.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Irish player either, who still took home a hefty €112,000.

Even so, it’s some way off of that jackpot and to have come so close only to miss out would be gutting to say the least.

Still, the money was never theirs to begin with.
