Irishman thought to have died after being impaled on gate had been celebrating new job

A MAN who is believed to have died after accidentally impaling himself on a gate had been out celebrating a new job.

The body of Mick Burke, 35, from Dalkey was found on Friday morning by a passer-by.

It is thought he had accidentally impaled himself while scaling the gate on a laneway in Dalkey leading to an apartment block.

The Irish Independent reports that Mr Burke, a qualified electrician, had been celebrating getting a new job just hours earlier.

A friend of Mr Burke's told the paper: "His family are inconsolable. Mick was a gentleman.

"He lived with his family and though he did work in SuperValu, he was a qualified electrician and he was celebrating in Dalkey because he'd got a new job in his chosen field.

"Mick was delighted about his new job and he was hopeful for the future."

Gardaí had initially treated the incident as suspicious but have now ruled out foul play.

A spokesperson said: "Preliminary results of a post-mortem examination have been furnished to investigating gardaí and foul play has now been ruled out.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."
