Man, 19, charged after hero Irish mother killed in Christmas Day stabbing

A 19 YEAR OLD man has been charged with murder after a 'hero' Irish mother was fatally stabbed on Christmas Day.

Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch charged the young man with murder and two counts of attempted murder earlier today.

Jayne Toal Reat, 43 from Comber in Co. Down, was stabbed at a house in Lisburn, Co. Antrim on December 25.

She was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency services.

Her daughter Charlotte, 21, was also injured in the attack after she was stabbed in the face and neck.

Another man was also injured in the incident.

On Facebook, Charlotte said her mother was 'a hero.'

"Today will be a day I will never forget," she wrote. "I can still feel her in my arms and hear her screams of pain and see the panic on her face."

"My mum died saving me.

"Jayne Toal Reat you died saving my life and I just wish I could trade places with you.

"You're my hero forever and always and I'll never forget you. "

The 19 year old man is expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates Court tomorrow, Friday 29 December.
