Nottingham teenager injured in Belfast unrest

A NOTTINGHAM teenager has been hospitalised after being caught up in a night of disorder on Belfast’s streets.

On Monday (October 27) Jordan Else was injured in Albertbridge Road while in East Belfast visiting his sick grandmother.

The 15-year-old, who sustained a fractured skull during the fracas, is believed to have been returning from a take away shop when he was caught up in the disorder.

He was taken to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital at 7.10pm on Monday evening, where he remains after receiving treatment for two skull fractures and eight staples to his head.

The youngster, who had only arrived in the North last Friday, is believed to have travelled to Belfast from his home in Nottingham with his mother.

The incident featured in a night of unrest in the Castelreagh Street area, which saw petrol bombs and missiles thrown and left one police officer injured.

Police claim the disorder began when groups of youths gathered in Castlereagh Street, Woodstock Link, Albertbridge Road and Templemore Avenue.

Just one man was arrested on the night, for disorderly offences.

PSNI Chief Inspector David Moore said: "Police officers came under attack yet again on Monday night and local homes have been damaged.

"We need to get away from disorder becoming a nightly event,” he added, “people in this area, no matter what community they come from, do not want it.”

Chief Superintendent Nigel Grimshaw explained: "Young people are coming out during the half-term break, they are going to a sensitive interface area where tensions raise very quickly and, as a result of that, what happens is violence ends up on our streets which police have to respond to and people end up getting hurt.”
