A CONCERT at the Royal Albert Hall in honour of President Michael D. Higgins has sold out within hours of tickets going on sale.

Tickets for the one-off concert went on-sale at 9am this morning priced £10. More than 5,000 tickets were sold out within four hours.

The concert at the Royal Albert Hall will feature both world-renowned and emerging artists from Ireland and the UK.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Irish Youth Foundation (UK) to be used in support of Irish cultural projects in Britain.

The Royal albert Hall concert is one of a number of engagements he will attend during his three-day visit, which will begin two days earlier on April 8.

President Higgins will become the first Irish head of state to make a State visit to Britain, after accepting an invitation from the Queen last year.
