Irish mother shares heartbreaking footage of disabled wheelchair user son who has to CRAWL to get out of family home

AN IRISH mother has shared heartbreaking footage showing how her disabled son is forced to crawl out of his house because of serious failings in the local council.

Angela Murphy took to Facebook to share a video of her 27-year-old son Kenneth struggling to make his way down two concrete steps because there is no ramp for his wheelchair at the family home.

According to The Irish Sun, Angela decided to post the clip online after their local council in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland failed to respond to their repeated pleas to be rehoused in accommodation offering disabled access or have a ramp installed.

“2 and a half years of leaving and entering our home this way,” she captioned the footage.

“can’t get a ramp because we won’t enter into a long term tenancy, and all this while an adapted house lies empty. all these wheelchair accessible housing yet we can’t get one.”

Kenneth has Cerebral palsy is partially sighted, and his mum felt it was time to shine a light on the daily difficulties he faces as a result of the council’s inaction.

The video has since gone viral, with the Murphys receiving widespread public support for their plight.

It has also sparked action from the authorities with MP Angela Crawley contacting the Murphy family directly, while local councillor Richard Nelson condemned the footage.

“I was taken aback with the limited input they have received from both social work and housing,” he told the Daily Record.

“No-one in this day and age should have to live like this, in my opinion.”

The South Lanarkshire Council has now confirmed a team has made contact with the Murphys and is set to meet with them this week “to provide any support and assistance in this matte”.

Having stunned the authorities into action, Angela has since returned to social media to offer her thanks to those who supported her video and her cause.

“I would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and offers of help,” she wrote.

“I am totally overwhelmed by the reactions of everyone, i will keep updating with further progress, hopefully, and thanks again guys, its nice to know someone cares, at last.
