Toddler who died from serious head wounds in Tyrone named locally as man questioned by police

POLICE ARE continuing to question a man in relation to the death of a two-year-old girl in Tyrone.

On Friday, 6 August, a spokesperson from the PSNI Major Investigations Team confirmed that detectives were investigating all the circumstances surrounding the baby girl's death, after the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service were called to an address in Park Avenue, Dungannon to assist a two-year-old girl.

Tragically, the girl's head injuries were too great and she later died in hospital.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and detained for questioning, and RTÉ News reports that PSNI detectives have been granted a court extension to hold the man for questioning for a further 36 hours.

The child has been named as two-year-old Ali Jayden Maguire, known as AJ.

Mourners have been leaving flowers, teddies and cards outside the home where AJ was found grievously injured, and her family is being supported by family liaison officers from the PSNI.

In a statement on Friday, a PSNI spokesperson confirmed they had arrested a man on suspicion of murder, and a post-mortem is due to be carried out on baby AJ to determine the cause of her death.

They offered their condolence to the toddler's family at this difficult time.
