Tributes pour in as baby girl is killed by 'swooping magpie'

A BABY girl has sadly died during a tragic incident involving a dive-bombing magpie in Brisbane, Australia.

The five-month-old was named locally as Mia, and tributes have been pouring in from friends and well-wishers in an attempt to console her devastated family.

On Sunday, Mia's mum Simone tried to shield her tot from a hostile magpie darting at them through the air as they walked through the park.

In an attempt to duck and protect her baby, Simone tripped and fell over while cradling Mia in her arms.

The infant sustained serious head injuries during the fall and despite being rushed to Queensland Children's Hospital, she tragically passed away.

Friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe page in order to help them cover funeral costs and give them time to mourn their loss.

"On August 8, an absolute tragic and sudden accident occurred, where beautiful Mia, at only five young months of age, grew her little angel wings and left this world for the final time. Shattering everyone’s hearts, and crushing Jacob and Simone’s world in the blink of an eye where no day would ever be the same," the page reads.

"No words can begin to describe the torture Jacob and Simone are going through. A life cut so short, much sooner than any one of us expected. Mia was and forever will be the light of Jacob and Simone’s lives."
