Two people dead and three injured after horror road collision in rural Ireland

TWO people have died and three others have been hospitalised after a deadly traffic collision on a dual carriageway in Co. Cork.

The incident occurred this morning shortly after 11am on the Cork to Mallow Road.

Emergency services were called to the scene after two cars collided with a lorry on the N20 dual carriageway at the Waterloo Junction.

A man and a woman in their 60s were pronounced dead at the scene following three three-car collision in the northbound lane.

None of the three other motorists injured suffered life-threatening injuries but were taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated.

Two of the injured, a man and a woman who are also in their 60s, were taken by ambulance to the hospital along with the driver of the second car.

The driver of the truck was uninjured.

The stretch of road where the collision occurred is currently closed for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Diversions are in place and Gardaí are asking people travelling the N20 to use alternative routes.
