Woman (20s) arrested after livestreaming high speed chase from Dublin to Wicklow and back

A WOMAN has been arrested following a high speed chase involving dozens of garda cars and a helicopter which took place yesterday evening.

The pursuit took place on the M50 motorway and involved a woman in her 20s, over 10 squad cars, 8 Armed Support Unit vehicle and a helicopter; it is understood the woman drove from Dublin to Wicklow and back.

The chase stopped only when the woman stopped the car and got out of the vehicle in Ballymun.

Large portions of the chase were filmed and put on social media, either by passersby in Dublin or by the woman herself, who livestreamed the chase on the M50 directly to Instagram.

The video shows the woman singing along to the radio while filming flashing blue lights in her mirror; the clip went viral overnight, but her Instagram page has since been suspended.

A statement from An Garda Síochána, seen by The Journal, indicates that the pursuit began just after 6pm when the woman failed to stop her car for officers.

The chase, which spanned across two counties, continued for close to an hour before she was arrested at Hampton Wood Drive, Ballymun shortly before 7pm.

The woman was arrested for dangerous driving  and was brought to Ballymun Garda Station or questioning.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the chase.
