Manchester United have appointed Antrim native Andy O'Boyle as the club’s Deputy Football Director

MANCHESTER UNITED'S sweeping changes behind the scenes have continued today. The club have appointed Antrim native Andy O'Boyle as the club’s deputy football director.

United in previous weeks have announced the departures of chief scouts Jim Lawlor and Marcel Bout, the club's head of corporate development, Matt Judge, and Hemen Tseayo, Manchester United’s chief strategy officer in a major shakeup.

O' Boyle left his role as head of elite performance at the Premier League to join United this morning and will work with football director John Murtough.

The Ballymena native worked with the club's academy as a coach for 16 years.

O' Boyle had stints at Liverpool working for Jurgen Klopp as a club fitness coach and has also had stints with Wrexham and the England Under-21s.

United's football director John Murtough speaking via a statement on the clubs website said: “We are delighted to welcome Andy back to Manchester United to take up this important role in the club’s leadership.

“Andy has experience across all technical areas of football, from fitness and sports science to scouting and recruitment.

“This will make him a valuable addition to my team at Carrington as we continue to strengthen leadership and strategic planning across all our football activities.”

O’Boyle added: “I am thrilled to be rejoining Manchester United at such an exciting time for the club, as the first team prepares for a fresh start under Erik ten Hag, and the Academy and women’s teams go from strength to strength.

“Whilst it has been a privilege to serve the Premier League for the past five years, I can’t wait to get started at United and play my part in creating the right environment for football success.”

O’Boyle is due to complete his UEFA Pro License this summer, and he is also working towards a doctorate having already achieved a Masters in sports science.
