Mick McCarthy signs new three-year deal with Ipswich

IPSWICH manager Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor have agreed new three-year deals with the club, while midfielder Stephen Hunt has signed for a year.

McCarthy, 55, was entering the final year of his contract after guiding Ipswich to ninth in the Championship last term.

The former Republic of Ireland manager took charge of the Tractor Boys in November 2012.

Speaking of his role at club he said: "I love it here. We've made progress. I'm looking forward to making greater strides.

"I enjoy working for [owner] Marcus Evans. He leaves me alone to get on with it. I get no interference from him."

McCarthy steered Ipswich away from relegation in his debut season as manager, and led the club to within four points of the play-offs last season.

Ireland international Hunt, 32, joined Ipswich in November on a short-term deal, which was later extended until the end of the season.

The former Reading and Wolves player appeared 24 times in the 2013-14 season.
