Mid-week Betting: Magical Effect aiming for impact at Kempton

Our tipster Karl Hedley provides the odds for the week's races

WEDNESDAY

KEMPTON

6-55       BRITISH STALLIONS STUDS EBF MAIDEN STAKES (DIV 1) – 1 MILE

Wentworth Falls has progressed on each start for Charlie Appleby and ran his best race to date when tried over a synthetic surface at Wolverhampton last time. This extra yardage is unlikely to pose many problems for the son of Dansili and Adam Kirby takes the reigns for the first time. He is clearly learning with each run and he is expected to lose his maiden status sooner rather than later.

Natural Nine is the only other runner in the line-up with similar experience. He ran above expectations when sent off at a massive price on debut where he finished in the money at Leicester. He then failed to progress as expected when sent off as a short priced favourite at Beverley on his most recent start. This is his first attempt on the polytrack and if taking to it he has to be considered the main danger.

Saeed Bin Suroor has been making hay in these sorts of races of late and sends Global Force into battle here. Unlike his Godolphin stable-mate he comes here completely inexperienced and should improve for the run. Wentworth Falls is open to further improvement and can go onto better things after this.

7-25       BRITISH STALLIONS STUDS EBF MAIDEN STAKES (DIV 2) – 1 MILE

Legend’s Gate was completely unfancied on debut at Newmarket and was only just touched off in the end. He was allowed to dominate from the outset under Pat Smullen and he was only just headed by Aloft and Storm The Stars respectively. He is likely to know much more this time around and if allowed to deploy similar tactics under Adam Kirby the duo should prove tough to pass. Being a son of New Approach he ought to thrive over this one mile trip and he looks the one they all have to beat.

Spanish Squeeze looks a major player here and he has to be considered. He finished third in a similar Newmarket maiden that is actually working out quite well, seeing off the likes of Mutamakkin and Algaith with the minimum of fuss. They have both come out and won subsequently so a big run is on the cards.

Great Glen finished directly in behind Legend’s Gate on that last occasion and he too can be expected to improve for that debut effort. Being a son of High Chapparal he is likely to improve over further in time. He still ought to improve for that first outing and he too has definite place claims here. Charlie Appleby won this race last season and will be confident of doing so again with Legend’s Gate.

THURSDAY

KEMPTON

7-10       25 FREE BET AT BETVICTOR.COM MAIDEN STAKES – 6 FURLONGS

Magical Effect made a pleasing racecourse debut on the Tapeta surface at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago. Having made a less than ideal start he quickly made up lost ground and was doing all of his best work in the closing stages. He only found the vastly more experienced Illogical too strong and he is entitled to come on for that experience in leaps and bounds. Adam Kirby rode this son of New Approach on his debut and they are expected to go even closer at the second time of asking.

Scatzo represents a very much in form Martin Meade stable and he was also good enough to finish runner up on his racecourse debut at Wolverhampton. Being a son of Paco Boy he too should improve for this step up in trip and Fergus Sweeney is expected to maintain the ride. They head a list of potential dangers which also includes Lightning Charlie. Amanda Perrett’s youngster now tackles a synthetic surface for the first time and if adapting to it he has definite place claims. Charlie Appleby has a decent strike rate with his runners here at Kempton and Magical Effect is expected to enhance it further this evening.

FRIDAY

DONCASTER

1-50       SOCIALITES ZERO STOPTOBER NURSERY HANDICAP – 1 MILE

Best Example had to wait until his third racecourse appearance to shed his maiden tag but he did so with the minimum of fuss at Musselburgh. That win will have done his confidence the world of good and this step up to a mile is expected to bring yet further improvement from this son of King’s Best. Kevin Stott is proving an excellent addition to the Godolphin team having won on three of his last four rides for Saeed Bin Suroor. He is able to claim a more than useful five pounds and the combination command utmost respect.

Crafty Choice comes here very much at the top of his game and actually won over further than this last time out at Nottingham. Soft ground will not prove an issue for this son of Intikhab and Cam Hardie is scheduled to take the ride. Richard Hannon has his team in excellent shape and they look the biggest dangers. Lostock Hall is another that won last time out and during the Ayr Western meeting. This is his first attempt at a mile and he too has solid place claims if seeing out this extra furlong. Best Example is still open to plenty of improvement and it will come of little surprise to seem him progress further on what is his first try in handicap company.
